Some individuals gamble as a way to relieve unpleasant emotions or boredom, such as stress, anxiety, depression or grief. It is also a common coping mechanism during periods of economic hardship or as a way to escape from their daily responsibilities and worries. Other reasons to gamble may include the sexy, glamorous and fashionable image of gambling in the media, or the feeling that it is a fun and exciting activity that will yield rewards. In addition, some individuals find that it can be a form of addiction and may seek treatment for their problem gambling.
